In my view the main cause is that government officials are given too much of liberty. They have no fear to lose their jobs so they work as they want. Lets just think of the private sector. Why do you think there is lesser corruption in private sector that public sector? Basically, in private sector there is strict monitoring and employees can lose their jobs if they are found guilty. If the crime is high, they can even be prosecuted. Whereas the case is not as such with public sector where employees are venile and are free to do anything.

Corruption is spreading in India like an epidemic and has affected every sphere. The root cause of corruption is the desire for a lavish lifestyle. People have become more materialistic today and the needs are increasing day by day. In order to satisfy the increasing demands, people get involve in corruption as the salary they get is not enough.

Corruption is seem to be escalating in India. It is mainly because power lies in the hands of a few and these few people enjoy the whole power of democracy. Centralization of power is the root cause of corruption. It can be curbed only by decentralization of power. Local self-government should be formed if corruption is to be uprooted from the society.

Happiness is what people want and work for it and today happiness for most of the people is money. People do not just earn for food and shelter and this the root cause of corruption. It is not just the Government officials but also the common man who are involved in corruption only to gain happiness which can be brought through money.

I totally agree with you that the major cause of corruption is the want and need of money. Moreover, the cost of everything is rising and this is creating problems for common man and this lets them get involved in corruption activities. However, in case of politicians the reason behind corruption is the greed that is cropping up.
