The word Mehndi is derived from Sanskrit word namely, Mendhika. Indian culture embraces Mehndi strongly, putting it into use during the times of wedding. The brides and grooms are applied with Mehndi in various artistic designs which demarcates Indian wedding style and Indian culture. This is being practiced since olden times and can be seen as ancient form of tattooing.

Indeed mehndi is a part and parcel of Indian culture. Henna (Mehndi) also has various medicinal uses apart from just creating body arts. It is a potential hair conditioner. And by the way did you know how it colors our hair and skin? Its the Lawsone molecules in henna which react with Keratin in our hairs and skin to give out the color which lasts days together.

One more thing about Mehndi is, it's one of the very important rituals in Indian wedding and it is celebrated some days before wedding from all regions and states of India specially at bridal side. I had lot of fun in every mehndi ceremony on weddings.

Mehndi is a ceremonial art form which originated in ancient India. No doubt it is an important element of our culture specially in weddings. Its an ornament of the bride and the color of the mehndi is given high importance in Indian culture as the darkness of the color signifies the degree of husband’s and mother-in-law’s love. It depicts love and affection between the couple as it is believed that the longer it retains, the more auspicious it is.
