Thread: Insurance Scheme for Teachers

The Planning Commission of India has acknowledged that school teachers are important stakeholders in our country’s development and intimated that the proposal to introduce a life-insurance-cum-endowment scheme for school teachers is under examination in the Planning Commission. Proposal for health insurance (sent by the Health Ministry) for the school teachers has not been sent by HRD Ministry to the Planning Commission.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Human Resource Development Smt. D. Purandeswari, in a written reply to a question, in the Lok Sabha on 23 February 2011.

This move will prove highly beneficial to the down trodden teachers who are not given much benefits from the employee's point of view. When compared to the other employees of other than educational sector, most of them have an insurance cover from them. But no such thing exists for teachers who in a way play a vital role in molding the future our country.
