Iran declares itself a nuclear state

TEHRAN: Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced today that the Islamic republic has produced its first package of highly enriched uranium just two days after beginning the process.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad today told hundreds of thousands of cheering Iranians on the anniversary of the foundation of the Islamic republic that the country was now a "nuclear state."

"The first package of 20 per cent fuel was produced and provided to the scientists," he said, referring to the recently begun process of enriching Iran's uranium stockpile to higher levels.

Enriching uranium produces fuel for a nuclear power plants but can also be used to create material for atomic weapons. Iran announced Tuesday it was beginning the process of enriching its uranium stockpile to a higher level.

The international community has warned Iran against further enrichment activities, threatening new UN sanctions.

Tehran has said it wants to further enrich the uranium which is still substantially below the 90 per cent plus level used in the fissile core of nuclear warheads, as a part of a plan to fuel its research reactor that provides medical isotopes to hundreds of thousands of Iranians undergoing cancer treatment.

But the West says Tehran is not capable of turning the material into the fuel rods needed by the reactor. Instead it fears that Iran wants to enrich the uranium to make nuclear weapons.

One more to worry about.......in future, if this is all true.
And if there is no future to talk about, that means Israel and US have already bombed Iran.

I think Iran was already a nuclear state. so nothing new.

No mate, Iran is/was not a nuclear weapons state. There are still rumors doing the rounds in international media circles, that Iran's claim is a hoax.

I never refered to Iran as Nuclear Arms state. But they are the civilian nuclear state.

Being a Civilian Nuclear state needs hi-tech technology and equipments. Now, under International sanctions where do Iran get those? Yes, Russia did help a bit. And also, as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad recently said that they have enriched uranium upto 20%, they mean serious business.

One more doubt that I have is, inspite of being rich in energy, why do they need Civilian Nuclear reactors? Compare Iran to India, and we are an energy hungry nation with 1.13 billion people.

And btw, Mossad and CIA are the 2 best secret service organizations. Even if they get a hint of Iran developing nuclear weapons, Israel will bomb Iran back to the middle ages as Israel have an existential threat from Iran. US might or might not join the Israelis in an all out war with Iran, but will definitely support Israel.

They have got energy but they still got problem with energy due to lack of modern tecknology. As I said in another post, if one is given a free hand to do whatever they want and the other states are put under extreme pressure then god help us all, it will take us all in a road that we dont want.

But hey! Israel does not deny Holocaust OR Israel does not give speeches threatening the very existence of Iran, do they?

Dear Adrenalin,
Lets not to compare the issue of Holocaust and the deadly matter of Nukes. Iranian presidnet is not the only one who is having doubt about Holoucast. I personally believe in Holocaust but i also believe that this issue have clearly been taken advantage of by the Israeli gov. Israel is not threatening the existence of Iran, but they are surely wiping out the palestinian state from this earth.

You forgot to mention that PLO and Hamas are also killing innocent Israelis. Iran funds them, Hezbolla arms them.
