We 'got' or we 'won' independence?
every year the Americans celebrate 4th august as their independence day.it's when they remember how they won independence by a bitter struggle between the colony and colonialism.even ours was a bitter struggle for over 150 years.it was when Britain was completely shackled by impact of world war2 started by Hitler that they were forced to 'grant' us independence.did we really WON freedom?

Real good topic.
I presume that we both were not born at that time. So, its kind of hard to tell what really happen. The knowledge that we both have is something we were thaught in our schools days (India is a great nation) or something we gained watching movies or listening to some speeches made by politicians.

I'd say that we WON freedom, mainly because of all the movements that were being taken place by the Rebellions, that includes SubhashChandra Bose who played a VERY important role in planning to making things worse for Britishers through his radio and many other ways, which made Britishers lose their hold on our country and an concentrate on World War 2, mind you, many soldiers from Indian army Lost their lives to fight for britishers in World War 2.Had we been the docile Indians who'd walk on the path of non violence and satya ghraha, many more Indian soldiers would have lost their lives and the independence too.

very very proudly i will say that we actually won the freedom. had it not been the efforts and tireless and sleepless nights spent by our freedom fighters, the britishers were in no mood to grant us freedom. they had all plans to capture india and invade it, rather than exploit it in the best possible way they can, as they did through east india company and silk route. so we won independence by losing the precious lives of our countrymen, our martyrs.

i think we WON independence because it was the agitations and non-violence by followers of gandhi ji helped britishers turn their backs. it was our determination that made britishers feel that we are not going to give up any ways and so they will have to leave india on its own. i admit it was also britishers that, without much hassles gave india its independence.

in my view its both.. we have won and we got independence. reason being that, britishers were lenient and gentle to some extent for giving us our freedom back. if it were hitler to conquer india, no gandhi could have influenced him, by non violence. it was britishers who felt that unnecessary killing and ruling would not be wise.

With due respect Mr. R2India, from no angle were we given Independence. It was constant struggle and not british leniency that got us independence.
Attempts of the INA, regular revolts of the British Indian army and the royal Indian navy, and uncountable mass movements freed India. The mentioned actions shook the very foundation of the tyrannical british government.
But the sad and shameful thing is that Nehru and the so called Nehruvians sold this victory for their personal gain and thus today we have to ask questions as “ were we given independence or did we earn it? ”. Had we kicked out the British like the Americans did and properly eliminated anti-nationalists like you, our Motherland would have had a far jubilant future. And I wouldn’t have had to write this essay.
And as far as British leniency is concerned, I say you go through any book on Indian history, you will know how wrong you are. BRITISH OPPRESSIONS WERE SO INHUMAN THAT IT WOULD HAVE MADE EVEN HITLER PUKE.
I hope my above writing has brought some sense in your brain or whatever u keep inside your skull, you bloody british ass-licking rodent.

It is indeed a matter of debate because struggle for our indipendence collided with some of the unfortunate events of the millenium like two world wars, great depression etc. which has deep impact on world map. But it was only our consistency and dogged ditermination which ultimately forced Britishers to leave the country.

4th July is US independence day. And frankly speaking they deserve that. I am sorry to say, but Independence was a gift to us. All the credit goes to 2nd world war.
Yes, the credit goes to some Indian politician as they won't allow to get India divided into 518 states after Indo-Pak division.
Regards

We have fought for the independence and we have not got it just like that. After the blood shed of many indians including men, women, children and old aged people and a long term fight with the britishers we have gained independence after the rule of 100 years. It is completely wrong to say that we have got independence rather we have fought and won the battle.
