Indian Women Victims of NRI marriages

Now-a-Days women of India are going through another kind of Physical and mental pressure especially the women of Punjab, Gujarat and women of Haryana are facing mental trauma where incidences of fraudulent NRI marriages are Increasing. Every month 100s of cases are being reported in the Indian media. The National women Commission receives 100s of complaints from Indian woman abroad duped or duped by their Non resident Indian or working abroad husbands. There are 100s of others languishing in their villages waiting for the call from Abroad that never comes. NRI brides are forced to put up with lying , False promises ,cheating and unreasonable demands of dowry ,desertion and abduction of children. According to National Commission for women there are nearly 16,000 women deserted by NRIs in Indians state of Punjab alone. State Gujarat with a substantial Non Resident Indian population also has a quite large number of battered women in need of help. Indian Women become more vulnerable in the foreign country often without any family and financial support. They have no one to turn at the time of crisis.

The decision of Overseas Affairs ministry to appoint volunteers in nations with a high density of PIOs and Non resident Indians to carry out check of the grooms settled abroad has remained just on paper. With globalization the number of Non Resident Indian-Indian marriages is on the rise. It is sometimes impossible for the woman's relatives or parents in India to verify the credentials of the NRI grooms.Indian Police and Indian law enforcing agencies in India need to be more sympathetic in dealing with them. Reporting FIR must be made easy for the victims from the influential families. The Indian government needs to bring in some kind of regulation to ensure that all the protection accorded by the Indian law to women of India with regard to NRI-Indian marriage, divorce, maintainence , inheritance and custody of children.

i think indian women need to be more cautious when it comes to issues such as marriages. with increasing fradulent cases of NRI marriages indian women should learn a lesson and better go for indian resident men. falling prey to some NRI without knowing that person's backgroud properly is a reason for certain leading to such marriages.

yes there are quite a lot instances where indian women are becoming scapegoats in the hands of NRIs and they are being left deserted. the reason could be many ranging from family issues to looting money in the name of dowry. whatever the reason may be, indian women now need to become more cautious over this issue. mere offer of a foreign national male for marriage does not mean indian women should blindly get into it.

I want to clear this contradiction.....in many threads people say that Indian women are very intelligent....then in few threads like this people say they are victims. If they see/hear so many examples of this NRI stuff.....why can't they check before getting married?????

Indian women become the victim of NRI marriage at a great extent. These cases are happening at a rapid rate in india. Not only NRI but many other foreigners trap indian women in their web just to get the green card of a specific country and Murder them afterwards or they stay as a servant for the rest of their lives.

You cannot check each and everything before getting married. There are many stuff that remains silent and unnoticed. A complete inquiry about NRI's are not possible. SO this is the reason why women and families fall prey of such cheat NRI. Though a complete inquiry is done but practically it is not that possible.
