Thread: Urban Transportation ideas?

There is so much talked about the condition of urban traffic, how dense it is, and how much time is spent in congestion. However, I've never seen anybody suggest an(y) idea(s) to improving it. So, what do you think can or should be done to speed up, de-congest city roads and arteries without having to gobble up entire estates of land in mere road expanding? We need better transport infrastructure, and we need it now. Let's share our knowledge.

I do have a couple of ideas, but they might sound really ridiculous. I will wait for a couple of replies and then post mine.

creating flyovers and express ways are the best ways to match the demands of urban transportation. there are heavy vehicles rushing into the city and exiting every now and then. if same roads are to be used by the city people there would be traffic jams and so the best possible way is creating flyovers connecting the major roads and express ways.

i think designing a proper road linking system would be a wise decision to make. this would improve the traffic congestion. apart from these using flyovers and restricting larger vehicles to larger roads would ease the traffic. there should be footpaths and subways for pedestrians and that would ease the traffic a lot.
