    Default Birth Registration in India

There are more than 59% children born each year but they are not registered with any civil authority making them invisible. Under the age of 5 years, only 27% of children have a birth certificate. This fact has been highlighted by National Family Health Survey III-India’s social survey carried out in 29 states during the year of 2005-2006.

This is a serious issue because if the birth registration is not done, the population statistics could go wrong and this may have serious impacts indirectly on the indian economy. People should be made more and more aware of this registration and its importance. Also govt. must try to make it mandatory that even private hospitals as well as govt. hospitals carry out the birth registration process then and there to ensure every child is registered.

Births are not registered in india of poor people and many middle class people also do not pay any heed to these issues. Well, how can one expect the poor people to get the registration done of their child when they do not have money to feed the children. Birth registration should be done and must be made the duty of the government as poor people cannot do that all alone. They hardly have money to feed their children.

In my view it should be the job of government officials to register the births taking place in their hospitals. They should also conduct a survey in rural parts if there are any births which had taken place at their homes. Even birth registration awareness campaigns can be conducted in rural areas so as to make people aware of its importance.
