Default News Channels Growing in Numbers

In the recent past we can notice a trend which just started off. The business of news channels. The news channels have grown in such a large numbers that if we consider the number of regional news channels they can easily outnumber any other group of channels. With such grown numbers it is evident that we would get different news but the credibility and quality of news remain in question. what is your view on this?

I completely agree with your views. The escalating growth of the news channels have put a question mark on the credebility and quality of the news. The mounting numbers of news channels especially, the regional news channels have detoriarated the quality of news. Since these news channels run 24x7, they cannot offer quality news and they seem to cover even the smallest household fights which are irrelevant and are not worth a news.

It has been witnessed that there is a vast growth in the number of news channels in recent times. It seems to have outnumbered other entertainment channels. It has also been witnessed that the with the increase in the number of news channels, the quality of of news is decreasing considerably. It is also giving rise to competition which is another reason for degradation in the quality of news. Government should put a ban on or restrict opening news channels as it is leading to degradation of mass media as a whole.

It is true that news channels are growing in numbers and this is increasing the competition and is also decreasing the standard of news channels. Earlier there were only a very few news channels and the quality of news was high as well as unbiased but with the increase in the number of news channels, they quality of Indian media is deteriorating day by day. Since it has turned out to be a moneymaking business, people are opening more news channels but not of good standards. In my opinion, in order to maintain a high standard, restrictions should be imposed on opening news channels.

I guess the problem doesn't lie with the standards. We already have a set of standards under the Telecom Regulatory Guidelines. The problem is that no news channel maintains such standards. The only motive of these news channels is either to work for a political party or make money independently by other means. People should stop viewing such crap laden channels.

You are completely right that none of the news channels maintain the standards that are set. Media, which is considered to be the mirror of the society, has become a lucrative business and they are now more interested in making money and have forgotten their social responsibilities. I comply with you that we should all stop viewing the channels that do not provide news that are actually relevant and have value.

I agree that news channels are only rising in numbers and the quality is deteriorating day by day. The main reason behind this is the involvement of the politicians, who invests in these channels. However, the news channels should realize their responsibility and improve the quality and this is possible only if the people stop watching these channels.
