i think the blame goes to both media and government. media is making over hype on cricket news by conducting interviews with senseless people. all the news channels go and blabbering about cricket all the time. its the cricketers in all the advertisements, in the shows, and moreover government pays them heavily too. where could be place for games like hockey? and so i do not think hockey could come up in future unless government and media intervenes.

I completely agree with greatindia's post. media and govt should be blamed for not promoting hockey as it is a national game and these authorities should pay more attention towards the national game rather than giving importance to cricket. When they talk about indian games then why not hockey is given importance and steps are not taken to improve the condition of playing hockey in india. this is actually disgusting.

The future of indian hockey seems to me dark and pale. Everyone is running behind cricket and no one is paying any heed towards the national and interesting game called hockey. this is disgusting as we are the slave of the game which country has made us slave for more than 300 years. Cricket is originated from England and the same country has ruled over us for years which is again a shame!

The future of Indian hockey is in dark as no one is paying attention to our national sport which is a matter of sad. Indian hockey should get importance at least in India than any other game. This game needs support from our government and common people to increase the popularity of this game. Hockey needs support of masses and people's interest as well.

The future of indian hockey is indeed will be good. People are showing interest in the national game and I am sure soon they will realize the importance of the game as well. Hockey is the game that needs support form the youngsters, parents and the indian government. Being the national game this game hardly gets any attention from the government and the masses. One should teach facts about hockey and make this game popular around the world.

@Economist: I do not think that the future of indian Hockey game stands anywhere in front of the most popular game called cricket in India. People still love to watch Cricket game over the Hockey and if some students are showing interest in hockey then its solely due to the reason of being a patriot and they cannot see the national game die like this. Indian hockey cannot get recognition until government and other people who come forward to promote this game.

@sweetangel: Why not? I strongly believe that the game of Hockey has all the ingredients that makes it a popular game but the thing is people are so much busy in watching, praising and promoting this damn cricket game rather than the national game that it is losing grip and interest both in india. People around the world like this game a lot. It is just because Cricket is an age old game people have now used to it.

The future of indian hockey is in dark. Government is showing no interest in the promotion of this game in fact they are not ready to spend money on the training of Hockey after being a national game. This is a pity on the national game that it has been not respected in its own country then how can one imagine it to be respected by the other players or people around the world just like cricket and football.
